The Alleghany County Board of Supervisors appoints citizens to serve on many boards and commissions. Some appointments are made by magisterial district, others at-large, and some are recommendations for appointment by the Circuit Court.
Any appointments to the Alleghany County School Board are advertised pursuant to the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended.
The Board seeks input from citizens of the County regarding interest in serving on various committees. The following is a list of Boards and Commissions to which the Supervisors appoint individuals at various times due to term expiration, resignation, etc.:
Board of Building Code Appeals
Board of Equalization (only active during reassessments)
Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board
Mountain Gateway Community College Board
Comprehensive Services Act – CPMT
Industrial Development Authority
Local Office on Aging (LOA) Advisory Board
Alleghany Highlands Regional Library Board
Recreation Board
Social Services Board
TAP Board of Directors
Anyone interested in serving on any of these committees should send a letter and resume to the County Administrator’s Office, c/o Melissa Munsey, Deputy Clerk to the Board, 9212 Winterberry Avenue, Suite C, Covington, VA 24426. Include your name, address, magisterial district, phone number, and any other information you feel would be helpful. Also, indicate all of the above committees in which your are interested. Submitted names will be placed on a list for consideration of future appointments. You can also fill out a “Citizen Volunteer Application for Appointment” form which can be obtained by contacting Mrs. Munsey or by clicking here. Your application, resume, and/or letter will be kept on file and active for one year.
