Secretary II

Public Works Department

$11.00 to $15.00

Depending on experience (applicable knowledge, skills, abilities) and departmental fit.

The Public Works Department is currently seeking an independent, motivated, positive and professional member for our TEAM. The candidate will be required to display a willingness to learn, adapt to change, communicate openly, be diverse and meet or exceed departmental goals and objectives. This position will be responsible for complex utility billing and clerical task.

General Description: This position supports the Public Works department by staffing the reception area, answering phones and managing daily office tasks. The receptionist will provide high-level customer service to County staff, residents, and businesses. Additionally, this position will organize and maintain filing systems, route water, sewer and solid waste billing inquiries.

OPERATOR I

 FULL TIME POSITION

Alleghany County is accepting applications for a full time Operator I position in Public Works Department.  Successful applicant will be required to assist in installation of water and sewer connections, mainline installations, repair of leaks in the county water and sewer system, and operate dump truck, refuse truck, and other equipment.  Other duties include snow removal, brush haulage, cutting grass, and other duties as assigned.

Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and a CDL license is required.

Alleghany County Public Works is now hiring for the position of Mechanic I. This position is responsible for the preventative maintenance and skilled repair of public works, administration, parks and recreation, social services and sheriff department fleet.

Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the mechanics of gas and diesel motors/mechanisms, the ability to diagnose gas/diesel vehicle issues, the ability to inspect for defective or worn parts, the ability to operate welding equipment, the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with County staff, department heads, supervisors, general public, and officials.

Requirements:

A valid Commonwealth of Virginia State Inspection License or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.

Preference given to:

Candidates with a Valid Virginia issued Commercial Driver’s License

FULL-TIME POSITION

Alleghany County Public Works is now hiring for the position of Mechanic II (Supervisor).  The ideal candidate will be responsible, self-motivated, organized, energetic, and detail oriented.  This position is responsible for the preventative maintenance and skilled repair of public works, administration, parks and recreation, social services, and sheriff department fleet. Supervisory responsibilities include the use of computers and software (diagnostic, fleet management, work orders, word, excel, email), processing invoices, scheduling work and subordinate staff.

Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the mechanics of gas and diesel motors/mechanisms, the ability to diagnose gas/diesel vehicle issues, the ability to inspect for defective or worn parts, the ability to operate welding equipment, the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with County staff, department heads, supervisors, general public, and officials.

Requirements:

Valid Virginia Driver’s License

A valid Commonwealth of Virginia State Inspection License or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.

Current refrigerant and recovery license

Starting Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience, education, applicable certifications, licenses, skills, and training.
