Successful applicant will be required to assist in installation of water and sewer connections, mainline installations, repair of leaks in the county water and sewer system, and operate dump truck, refuse truck, and other equipment.

Other duties include snow removal, brush haulage, cutting grass, and other duties as assigned.  Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.

Purchasing Supervisor (FLSA: Non-Exempt)

Pay scale range $44,720 – $62,500 annually

The Public Works Department is currently seeking an independent, motivated, positive and professional member for our TEAM. The candidate will be required to display a willingness to learn, adapt to change, communicate openly, be diverse and meet or exceed departmental goals and objectives.

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Works, the Purchasing Supervisor, will be responsible for overseeing multiple areas of warehouse operation. This position will specialize in areas of planning, organizing, and operation of the warehouse including inventory management, surplus handling, facility security, and safety.

FLEET MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

The Public Works Department is currently seeking an independent, motivated, positive and professional member for our TEAM. The candidate will be required to display a willingness to learn, adapt to change, communicate openly, be diverse and meet or exceed departmental goals and objectives.

Under the general guidance of the General Services Manager, the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor position will be responsible, self-motivated, organized, energetic, and detail oriented.  This position is responsible for the supervision and active involvement of preventative maintenance task, and skilled technical repair of public works, administration, parks and recreation, social services, sheriff, and various other County fleet and/or equipment.

SANITATION WORKER

Part Time

Starting pay range $17.00 per hour

Pay Dependent upon experience

Alleghany County Public Works is now hiring for the position of part-time Sanitation Worker. This position is responsible for performing manual work in the collection and disposal of solid waste.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Picks up refuse in cans and unloads dumpsters.
  • Provides assistance to the driver at all times during refuse collection, watching for traffic and backing up to dumpsters.
  • Works at the rear of the refuse truck operating the winder and sweeper when the hopper is full.
  • Communicates with the general public and provides assistance with refuse for handicap customers.
  • Empties refuse truck at the Transfer Station.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed outdoors with exposure to weather conditions; and near moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, the risk of electric shock, and unpleasant odors. Work requires driving; operation of vehicle may be under potentially hazardous conditions involving road construction, inclement weather, traffic hazards, exposure to fumes and noise.

UTILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II

(FLSA Non-Exempt)

Pay scale range $35,750 – $50,000 annually

Depending on experience, applicable knowledge, skills, abilities and departmental fit

The Public Works Department is currently seeking an independent, motivated, positive and professional member for our TEAM. The candidate will be required to display a willingness to learn, adapt to change, communicate openly, be diverse and meet or exceed departmental goals and objectives.

Under the general guidance of the Utility Construction Supervisor, the Utility Maintenance Technician position will be responsible for the operation, preventative maintenance, and emergency response while maintaining regulatory compliance of the Counties water distribution (pump stations, tanks, and valves) system; wastewater (pump stations, EQ tanks, and valves) collection system; and other appurtenances.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I  

(FLSA: Non-Exempt)

Pay scale range $32,000- $45,000 annually

Pay dependent upon experience

Alleghany County is accepting applications for a Maintenance Tech I. – Public Works Department. Successful applicant will be required to assist in installation of water and sewer connections, mainline installations, repair of leaks in the county water and sewer system, and operate dump truck, refuse truck, and other equipment.

Other duties include snow removal, brush haulage, cutting grass, and other duties as assigned.  Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.  A CDL is preferable and will be required within 6 months of hire for those applicants who do not already possess a CDL.
