Under the general guidance of the Assistant Director of Public Works, the Utility Billing Manager plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Utility Billing Division. This position will perform administrative work in the preparation, collection, and record maintenance of utility bills. The work performed is highly complex and requires strong accounting and customer service skills. Preferred experience with Tyler Technologies (Munis).

Senior Center Van Driver
Part-Time

Alleghany County is looking for an energetic professional with a passion for helping others through senior services. This position will transport seniors from their home to senior centers around the local area as well as local and out of town trips using 15 passenger vans. This position will assist seniors to and from their home and assist them into and out of the vans. Will be responsible for meal pick up and delivery to centers, vehicle cleaning and vehicle logs. Positive people skills are essential. Must utilize effective communication. Must be able to work with partner organizations. Hours vary primarily Monday through Friday up to 25 hours per week. May be less initially since the programs are just restarting after COVID.
Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Experience transporting people in vans is a plus. Under the general guidance of the Solid Waste Manager, this position will serve as the first point of contact for customers. Job duties include being responsible for weighing vehicles on scales to determine fee amount, collecting fees and balancing cash/checks daily, preparing deposits and assisting customers as needed. The position also ensures that solid waste operations are operated in accordance with all environmental and transportation rules and regulations.

Maintenance Technician I (FLSA: Non-Exempt)

Alleghany County is accepting applications for a Maintenance Tech I. – Public Works Department. Successful applicant will be required to assist in installation of water and sewer connections, mainline installations, repair of leaks in the county water and sewer system, and operate dump truck, refuse truck, and other equipment.
Other duties include snow removal, brush haulage, cutting grass, and other duties as assigned. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license. A CDL is preferable and will be required within 6 months of hire for those applicants who do not already possess a CDL.
