Maintenance Technician II Position in the Alleghany County Regional Jail

(FLSA: Non-Exempt)

Pay scale range $35,750 – $50,000 annually

Pay dependent upon experience

 Alleghany County Public Works is accepting applications for a Maintenance Tech II – this position will work directly at the Alleghany County Regional Jail. Under the general guidance of the Assistant Director of Operations, the Maintenance Technician II will be responsible for the daily and scheduled preventative maintenance of certain systems, repairs, minor modifications and construction of the Jail and performs essential job functions to ensure a clean and safe working environment. The person in this position works Monday – Friday, mostly days, and will have on-call responsibilities.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid Virginia Driver’s license, must be a citizen of the United States, and be twenty-one (21) years of age. All applicants are required to a complete a criminal history background search with acceptable results.

Assistant Director of Operations (FLSA – Exempt)

Pay scale range $61,000 to $90,7500 annually

Depending on experience, applicable knowledge, skills, abilities and departmental fit

The Public Works Department is currently seeking an independent, motivated, positive and professional member for our TEAM. The candidate will be required to display a willingness to learn, adapt to change, communicate openly, be diverse and meet or exceed departmental goals and objectives.

Under the general guidance of the Director of Public Works, the Assistant Director of Operations position will be responsible, self-motivated, organized, energetic, and detail oriented. This position will oversee divisions include Water and Sewer (Distribution, Storage, Collections and WW Treatment), Solid Waste (Collections, Transfer Station, Bulk, Recycling, Disposal, Brush and Waste Tires) and General Services (Facilities, Fleet, Warehouse, Joint Services). The core areas in these divisions include Safety, Planning, Projects, Professional Development, Personnel, Budget/Expenditures, Procurement, and Programs. The position will have direct supervision of three division managers and indirect supervision of multiple employees.

Under the direct supervision of the Utility Construction Supervisor, Equipment Operator I is responsible for performing skilled work in the operation of commercial vehicles and heavy equipment, as well as general manual labor in the maintenance of water and sewer lines.

Successful applicant will be required to assist in installation of water and sewer connections, mainline installations, repair of leaks in the county water and sewer system, and operate dump truck, refuse truck, and other equipment.

Other duties include snow removal, brush haulage, cutting grass, and other duties as assigned.  Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.  A CDL is preferable and will be required within 6 months of hire for those applicants who do not already possess a CDL.
